Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
An herbaceous vine with a slender stem that twines up to 3-5 feet long or high. The leaves are alternate on the stem, with each of the 3 leaflets being ovate to nearly triangular, with strongly rounded bases and a tapered tip.... The leaflets have hairs that are flattened to both the upper and lower leaf surfaces, a helpful identification key in separating this species from Thicket Bean (Phaseolus polystachios). The distributions and habitats of the two or more varieties in our area require herbarium and field investigation, per Weakley's Flora (2025)

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
