Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
Phacelia purshii (the species as a whole) grows erect or sprawling, to about 1' tall. At branch ends are small clusters of cymes, each flower ~ 1/2" across. Petals are fringed and lilac to lavender to pink with white at the base (so that the open flower is white in the middle). Thus, reasonably different from P. fimbriata, even if both grow on the same forested slope, separated by its taller size, longer leaves with more deeply toothed look, and flowers that are lavender or lilac in color. To distinguish from the recently recognized P. purshii var. boykinii, see "Evaluation of the taxonomy of Phacelia purshii (Hydrophyllaceae)" by Levy (2021). If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
